Farjana Nur is working as a Data Scientist at Amazon.com. She received her Ph.D. from Mississippi State University (MSU) in 2020. Her Ph.D. major was Industrial & Systems Engineering with the concentration on operations research. In addition to her major Industrial & Systems Engineering, she holds a minor in Statistics from Department of Mathematics and Statistics at MSU. Prior to her Ph.D. education, she completed her Bachelor’s in Industrial & Production Engineering from the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Bangladesh. Farjana also worked as faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at KUET. Under the broader domain of Operations Research, Farjana’s specific interests lie in discrete optimization, Stochastic Programming, Integer (IP) Programming, decomposition algorithms, and Parallel Computing with diverse applications in supply chain network design, transportation, military logistics, power system planning, and renewable energy. She is currently researching on applying reinforcement learning tools and techniques to address complex large-scale optimization problems. Farjana served as the president of INFORMS Student Chapter at MSU. She holds her professional membership in Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), Women in ORMS (WORMS), Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE), and Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) and is actively involved in different voluntary organizations. In her leisure time she enjoys reading, painting, sketching, and outing.
